NDT Method — VT
Visual Weld Inspection
The first line of quality assurance on every project.
Visual weld inspection (VT) is the most fundamental form of non-destructive testing and is required by virtually every welding code. Our AWS Certified Welding Inspectors (CWIs) and ASNT Level II visual inspectors evaluate welds for surface discontinuities, dimensional compliance, and workmanship quality.
VT is performed before, during, and after welding operations. Pre-weld inspection verifies fit-up, joint preparation, and base material condition. In-process inspection monitors heat input, interpass temperature, and technique. Post-weld inspection confirms final geometry, surface condition, and code compliance.
While visual inspection alone cannot detect subsurface flaws, it is the most cost-effective screening method and a mandatory prerequisite for all other NDT methods. Our inspectors are trained to recognize subtle indications that warrant further investigation by RT, UT, or MT.
